Lord of the Rings- Massive loophole, plot hole, error, mistake discovered!

If Gandalf can summon the Eagles to do his bidding, why not use them to go to Mordor double quick and chuck the One Ring into Mount Doom? lol. This is like Harry Potter and the Time Turners- if you open that can of worms you need to live with the consequences. lol.
