My Top Computer Games of ALL TIME!

Here it is folks, the definitive list of the best PC games I have ever played. And I have played a lot.
I am huge fan of shooters, and adventure games. RPG's I also like as long as the story is good but as a rule do not go looking for them. (The best RPG's I have played are probably The Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic games and the Mass Effect series) Racing games usually bore me to death within the first five minutes unless they are arcade games with lots of action. One of my best racing action games I played in my youth was called Axelerator (Have a NICE day). This was awesome, arcade cars with machine guns and rocket launchers to blow up the car in front of you. What could be better. I always thought of racing simulations as a dead bore. What fun is it sticking to the rules of physics and the law within a gaming enviroment? So I hardly ever played any real racing sims. That al changed after I bought my iPhone and discovered a gem of a game called Real Racing 3. But that's another story. This here is about PC games and the following are the greatest I have had the pleasure of experiencing.

Doom/Doom 2
These 2 games came preloaded onto the first PC I ever owned back in 1997, a Pentium 200MMX. My buddy and I used to play this for hours on end. We were young and no cares in the world, all we had was Doom :) This made an indelible and unforgettable impression on my psyche. Amazing action, utterly breathtaking levels and stunning music (the soundtrack I still listen to sometimes). Seeing 100s of enemies come at you from every direction was a true nightmare. The Boss fights in the vast arenas are still amazing to this day. I love games like this, games that don't pretend to be anything but a game. The reason I hated the sequel Doom 3 so much was they dropped all this and went with the times and bogged it down with storylines and claustrophobia and enemies in single-file. lol.

Half Life

Half Life was a game changer. It had a movie like storyline NPCs that were essential to the player progression. NPCs that could talk with perfect lip syncing. Amazing weoponry such as the laser-guided RPG launcher that could be used to take down the black gunships (first-time ever I'd seen a helicopter shot down by an rocket launcher in a game). Plus it had Gordon, a hero who was no muscle-bound Duke Nukem but a MIT particle physicist. Amazing set piece after set piece, with stunning enemy AI.

Hexen II

I was a huge fan of the first Hexen with its enhanced Doom engine graphics, moss covered ruined castles and fantasy setting. Endless dungeons with endless enemies, and secrets and keys and portals. An intricate puzzle that was extremely intoxicating as well as hard as hell to solve. When Hexen II came along and i bought it immediately. Graphics were a step above, and gameplay was even better. Catapulting over castle walls, finding clue after clue, secret after secret beating one horsemen of the Apocalypse after another, till finally we meet Eidolin in a vast arena with the creepiest music I have ever heard for a boss battle. This still is the greatest Final Boss battle in any game ever for me.

Far Cry

Jedi Knight Dark Forces II

Jedi Academy

Crysis

Prey

Pharaoh

Quake III

Flashback- how I sold an overclocked Celeron 400 as a Celeron 500 to a stupid Gook!

When I was in Melbourne, Australia from 1998-2004 I did some crazy shit sometimes :)
Once I remember I needed money urgently (which was like every other day. lol).
Anyway I wanted to sell of my gaming machine. Think this was back in 1999 or 2000.

My PC had a Celeron 400 processor, which was the top mainstream workhorse at the time.

Here's a link to the exact specs of that machine- http://mwalatara.tripod.com/newcomp.html

Anyways so I sometimes had the machine overclocked to 500 within the BIOS. Because I did not have aftermarket cooling for the processor, this turned out to be too much an OC. During gaming, sometimes even on the desktop it would just freeze.

So to fix that I would open the case and point a small table fan direct at the CPU area. This provided enough cooling and stopped the freezing.

Time came when I had to sell it, I figured sell it to some stupid international student from the nearby Monash University. I printed out a really nice ad flyer for the PC and posted it at the Uni student noticeboards. And voila the call came poring in!

Those days Windows did not identify the true CPU code within the OS. It only repeated the Mhz that was recorded in the BIOS. So a Celeron 400 that was overclocked to 500 would be read and displayed as a Celeron 500 CPU by the operating system :)

So when I guy from Vietnam dropped by and I showed it to him, he naturally did not suspect anything. So I managed to get a slight premium for my PC that I otherwise would not have got if it was running 400 Mhz. :P

Sad thing was the machine would've been freezing up routinely, without the extra cooling provided by my table fan. Since the stupid gook did not know that it was OCed and freezing cos of that and lack of extra cooling, I am sure the PC would've got permanently damaged and packed up within a very short period of time.

Still feel sorry for the stupid gook.
But hey, some people are born to lose.

Helicopter in slow motion with the iPhone 5s camera!

Shot this without any preemption in my front yard.

One gripe I wish to rant about is the lack of upload function in the YouTube mobile app. WTF???

Also the stupid iOS Photos app does not upload at HD without WIFI. WTF????

Apple’s Activation Lock Brings Down iPhone Theft In Major Cities

"Apple’s introduction of iOS 7 Activation Lock has actually led to a decrease in iPhone-related theft in New York, London, and San Francisco, according to NY Attorney General Eric Schneiderman.
“The introduction of kill switches has clearly had an effect on the conduct of smartphone thieves,” said Schneiderman in an interview with the New York Times. “If these can be canceled like the equivalent of canceling a credit card, these are going to be the equivalent of stealing a paperweight.”
Measuring the six months before and after the release of Activation Lock, San Francisco police officers said that iPhone robberies fell 38 percent. Over the same period, London-based iPhone robberies dropped 24 percent.
Within the first five months of 2014, Apple-related robberies dropped 19 percent from the same period in 2013."

Where is stupid ugly plasticky Samsung on this???
They cannot, or do not need to implement anything like this, cos who in their right minds gonna steal a worthless fugly brick like an S5?? lol.

Mobile gaming vs Consoles vs PCs!

Hello, so I was thinking and it suddenly hit me. I play more games on my iPhone 5s than I do on my PC. I have always been a PC gamer, since the early days of Prince Of Persia and later Doom and Half Life etc.

But mobile gaming has progressed so much, the graphics and storylines are getting closer to PCs nowadays that I find it much easier and faster to get my quick gaming fix via my iPhone these days. For one thing phone starts much faster than a PC, apps load up way faster than a PC games, and being mobile I can play it wherever, whenever, and not have to be at my desk all the time.
Can relax in the garden or go to the nearby riverside and play on my mobile while taking in the relaxing sights and sounds of the environment.

So I believe mobile gaming has already far eclipsed consoles and soon will do so with PC gaming.
As mobile power and graphical capacity increases, and since everyone needs a phone for communication, PC gaming and consoles will become a thing of the past.

Dumb and Dumber To trailer!

My top three picks from the 2014 E3 games expo!

Ok saw a bunch of trailers for up coming games from the E3 2014.
But the only 3 that really got my heart palpitating are these.

1) Star Wars Battlefront.

This looks every Star Wars fan's wet dream. To be able to play all the major battles in the movies with movie quality graphics. Have a look at the in-engine renders. And tell me your jaw ain't on the floor.

2)  The Division

This has some of the most amazing detail and lighting effects I have ever seen. I wonder if the final game will be this good.

3) Far Cry 4

I have soft spot for Far Cry games. The first one was a true utter Masterpiece. Like living every 80s action movie and mutant monster movie combined and then some. Saying it's the most fun one can have on a PC is a understatement.

Second one was a drab dreary bore, only good for its nice visuals of Africa, but little else.

But they came back strong with Far Cry 3, with a good core villain, and pretty graphics and a bit of RPG elements thrown in for good measure.

So the 4th version looks mighty interesting to me with aerial based combat, elephant rampages, and even better graphics.

My Top 10 favourite Star Wars quotes!

Star Wars is back in the air, with host of new movies and live action TV shows in the works.

So I decided to write up me favourite Star Wars lines. Truth be told almost every single line in especially the Original Trilogy are classic lines. To bring em down to 10 favourites is mighty hard indeed!

1 Try not. Do or do not. There is no try- Yoda, trying to teach Luke the ways of the Force in the Empire Strikes Back.

2. Traveling through Hyperspace ain't like dusting crops boy.- Han Solo extolling the virtues of not jumping into Hyperspace without proper calculations.

3. Never tell me the odds.- Han Solo, when C3PO gives him the odds of successful asteroid field navigation.

4. Great kid, don't cocky.- Han Solo, after Luke blows up his first Tie Fighter.

5. Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.- Han Solo, when Obi Wan tries to teach Luke about the Force.

6. That's no moon, its a space station.- Obi Wan Kenobi, when they find themselves drawn towards a distant object.

7. Alderaan? I'm not going to Alderaan, I've gotta get *home*, it's late, I'm in for it as it is! - Luke Skywalker, when Obi Wan tries to persuade him to join him in high adventure.

8. Why do I get the feeling you're gonna be the death of me?- Obi Wan Kenobi, when Anakin keeps losing his lightsaber as well as his cool.

9. Use the Force, Luke.- Obi Wan Kenobi, when Luke tries to use the targetting computer to blow up the Death Star.

10. Wars not make one great- Yoda, when Luke says he's looking a for a great warrior.

Looking for an online PC hardware store that ships worldwide??

Lots of people specially in Asia are frustrated that major US computer hardware stores such as Newegg and Amazon do not ship to their regions. This is doubly sad seeing that those stores have the best deals and prices along with the latest products.

But after years of searching I have a found a store that is based in Hong Kong that does ship worldwide. Plus they have the latest and greatest products at prices that are routinely comparable to Newegg, sometimes even better!!

And there shipping prices are dead cheap! I have personally bought thousands of dollars worth of products from them and can recommend them 100%.

iOS 7 tip of the day! Free apps that have built-in ads using up ur data bundle??

Here's how to fix the problem.

You might notice there are tons of free apps that come with ads that rotate every so often, these are not only annoying but use up ur precious cellular data to download them. And there is no way to turn off the ads short of paying for it. And some apps don't even have a paid version without ads!

So what you do is simple. Just turn off Cellular Data for that app! This'll prevent the app from accessing more ads from the app server or Google adsense or wherever!

Just go to Settings>Cellular and scroll down till you hit the app you wanna turn off data for.

Note that this is best done for apps such as games or utilities and other non-essential apps that do not need a cellular data for their core functions.

Bodybuilding Tip of the Day!

Do not eat RICE!
Eat Meat, eggs, non-fat milk, oatmeal, lots of vegies and lots of fruits, and drink a gallon of water and you're 60% on the way to a better, leaner more muscular physique.

Eat lots of chicken boneless skinless chicken breasts- these are high in protein and low in fats and also eggs are ver very good for building RAW muscle! Try and eat around 10 egg whites and 2 yolks a day.

Eat not 3, but 6 regular sized meals, evenly spaced (every 3 hours or so), high in protein, low in carbs and fats.
But remember you need carbs and fat to build muscle and maintain energy in the gym so do not cut them out too much. So during your workout days make sure to eat a meal high in carbs as well as protein before and after your workout. Rest days keep carbs low.

The body uses cholesterol to produce testosterone so you will need some cholesterol and fats in your diet.

Next tip tomorrow....

Unboxing Huion H610 Graphics Tablet

This a fantastic tablet for the price. Huge active area and good basic functions. The earlier Wacom I had cost twice as much for half the size.

Can purchase from eBay for a steal.

Unboxing and Review- Microsoft Lifecam Studio!

This a fantastic little webcam, much better that the Logitech one I had before. Image quality and colors are far better. But you will need to pair it with a good third-party software such as Cyberlink YouCam to make the most of it and record in 1080p. The included software only records only in 720p.

HD 119 Eagle Eye Extreme HD bike camera unboxing

This is a fun distraction for a while, good for recording bike rides and outdoor acitvities.
However the video quality is very poor despite it being touted as 1080p.

Here's short video of the image quality during a mountain bike ride.

Unboxing XBOX 360 wireless controller for PC!

This controller is really good for playing from the couch or bed, as a lot of games have built-in support for it. However you will need a large screen TV to make the most of it.
