Tau Zero book review!
Finally I got around to read this classic Science Fiction book.
And I wasn't disappointed.
What a ride- what a story- what an ending!
This really blew my mind.
The author Poul Anderson had some balls to pull off the ending that he did.
The story is bloody incredible with undertones of one of my all time favorite TV shows- Stargate Universe.
Recuperating from a long Nuclear War humanity has started to send ships to nearby stars, to explore and colonize.
One such ship with 25 men and 25 women on-board are sent on a trip to seek out a planetary system 32 light years away. Using a Bussard drive that harnesses the hydrogen between the stars to power the ship's constant acceleration. However a run-in with an unexpected obstacle mid-flight disables the ship's deceleration systems. Unable to slow down, the ship is forced to keep accelerating till it reaches billionths of a fraction under tau zero- light speed.
Time dilation effects cause billions of years to pass in the universe while within the passengers experience only minutes. Totally helpless they keep speeding towards the unknown, with no hope of ever returning.
This is definitely up there with the best SF I have ever read.
True Masterpiece.

Man of Steel review
So here's my review of the new Superman movie. After considerable thought and meditation I have arrived at these views.
Its just crap.
Lets start with the actor. He's nice. Physically right, but somehow he doesn't have the acting ability or the character to pull of Clarke Kent or Superman IMO. He's just riding on his looks and doesn't have the ability to back it up with acting ability.
Lets check out the story.
They have done a few things right to improve things. Got rid of the stupid Lex Luthor villain and concentrated on the Genereal Zan or whatever. They have got rid of the stupid underpants on the outside costume. They have got rid of the soppy Lois Lane flythrough the skyscrapers bit- that fit perfectly with the original 70's version but would look retarded now. The all star cast does some good as well. Escpecially Laurence Fishburne.
I hate how how the story jumps back and forth between timelines- its jarring and doesn't fit the whole epicness of a SUperman movie. I hate how it doesn't have any epic save scenes like in the orginals or the 2006 reboot- such as saving the space shuttle prototype and the jumbo jet (only thing good about the 2006 movie)- whatever scenes they do have are pathetic and doesn't stick in mind or feel epic.
I hate the excessive obvious CGI. And the redundant scenes of city/building destruction that is required these days after The Avengers/Transformers movies (which did those far, far better).
I hate the overlong, totally stupid CGI battles on Krypton at the beginning, feels like the producers trying to justify Russel Crowe and his earlier Gladiator role, while trying to mimic Avatar.
And I hate the stupid CGI metalic displays of Krypton. Just cause you can do it doesn't mean you should. Reeks of CGI and utter stupidity. Like the producers were determined to be different and settled on something utterly stupid.
And Lois Lane is totally forgettable, probably due to the retarded casting and terrible acting.
So yeah, there's not a single moment in this movie which sticks in my mind in a 'Ooo, now there's something you don't see everyday' kinda way.
Which is very very sad indeed.

How to master First Person Shooter games!
First Person Shooters (FPS) are easily the fastest, most intensive gaming experience ever developed. Pioneered by John Carmack and his company id Software, shooters provide a unique high-speed in your face perspective on the gaming experience due to its 'first person' nature.
To play such a fast-twitch genre and come out on top, you have to follow a few basic guidelines and rules.
- Unlike most other games, FPSs require a more powerful computer with a graphics card that can push high framerates even during the most graphics-intensive firefights. If the framerate is below 30fps all other advice given herein will be utterly useless. Ideally framerates should be 60fps for the smoothest gameplay. And if you intend to frag online, you will need high speed internet, with a low ping between you and the host server.
- Gaming surface- This in my opinion is the key to winning. Any mouse pad will not do, you will need a gaming-specific design, with a fairly large area, made of material that will enhance the tracking of your mouse. In my case I use the Mionix Propus 380- and it is simply PERFECT for my old Logitech G5 laser mouse.
- Any mouse made in the last 5-10 years will be more than adequate for playing games, as I said before, a high-quality mouse-PAD is the key. As long as it fits you hand perfectly, and comfortably your good to go. No need to pay extra for DPI settings that reach orbit, or 50 buttons or fancy lights that make it look like E.T.'s spaceship.
- Set the in-game mouse sensitivity to a fairly high level- high enough that will allow you to spin around, look around with a simple twitch of the mouse, while still being able to have control of the movement without too much hassle. This will need lots of practice, and at first you may feel like a high sensitivity is too much, but keep at it and after a few sessions of extended gameplay and getting acclimatized you will realize how easy and smooth complex moves become. THIS IS A MUST-DO RULE IF YOU WISH TO MASTER FAST TWITCH GAMES such as Quake and the Unreal Tournament franchises.
That's all the advice you will need to become master of the FPS genre. Follow these rules and keep practicing.
Have a look at some of my exploits in maximum difficulty against the bots in Quake III, using all the advice given above.

The Only 3 Bodybuilding Supplements you will EVER need!!!
Ok so everywhere you look supplement companies have a trillion products on the market, each claiming to be essential, or the next big thing, for muscle building!
I have been bodybuilding for a long time, and I know all this crap is just that- CRAP! Its just marketing gobbledegook and nuttin else!
If you eat six meals a day, high in proteins (chicken breasts, lean red meats, fish, egg whites), with a bit of carbohydrates (pasta, oatmeal), plus lots of vegies and fruits thrown in, drink lots of non-fat milk and a gallon of water- you are 90% there nutritionally!
Forget all those Pre-workout stimulants, they are loaded with caffeine and other lord knows what ingredients that end up giving some users heart attacks!
The Only supplements you will ever need are these!
1) Protein- preferably a combination of Whey protein during the day between meals and before and after workouts, and Casein protein before you go to bed in the night!
2) Creatine Monohydrate- tried and true supplement that give you boost in power when taken before your workout session. Very safe and very well researched and understood.
3) Vitamin C- this is a wonder vitamin that helps your body recover and rebuild after a heavy session at the gym. Also gets rid of free radicals in your system. Take at least 1000mg a day.
So thats all you need.
Some people might suggest a multivitamin in there as well.
Personally I feel if your eating well you won't need a multivitamin. But if you wanna take one, it ain't gonna hurt.
Some might suggest taking some testosterone boosting products and minerals such as ZMA or a dedicated Zinc supplement. I used to take ZMA and never really saw any strength gains from them.
Anyhow those are my 3 recommended supplements for you to start packing on some serious muscle.

Bodybuilding.lk BUSTED! for selling FAKE BOOTLEG PRODUCTS!
DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!
THeir prices are so cheap because they sell fake products- NOT GENUINE!
I bought a Optimum Whey protein 5lbs tub from them and IT DID NOT have the GENUINE HOLOGRAM on it. If One product is fake, stands to reason ALL OF THE PRODUCTS ARE FAKE!
I contacted Optimum Nutrition is the US and they said they don't know this company and their Official distributor in Sri Lanka is some other company.
I also contacted Bodybuilding.COM whose logo these guys closely copy, and they said they don't know them either.
Buy from Life Supplement Store in thimbirigasyaya- they have the Genuine Product or buy straight from the US Bodybuilding.com Store!

How to choose the perfect web host for you site!
Choosing a good web host ain't easy nowadays, cos there are so many of them and most are totally new and untried and untested by the masses.
When choosing a host you must look for the following features.
1) Price. If you cannot afford it, whats the use?
2) Bandwidth and Disk Space allowed- most hosts even tho they say they give Unlimited bandwidth and space will always have a limit on the amount you can use. But for most users this won't be much an issue.
3) Speed. If your site loads slow it may not necessarily be a problem with your new host. Could be unoptimized code, code errors, lack of a CDN etc.
4) Extra features. If your host gives you a ton of useful extra features such as Adsense credit, Fcaebook credits etc, this could be very useful for getting your site off the ground.
So after tons of research on the web I wholeheartedly recommend iPage for for your hosting needs. They have super high speeds while having a lots of extra features, while being supremely affordable!

My Top Ten Movies of All Time- revised edition
1) Star Wars ep. IV- A New Hope
This was, is, and forever will be the greatest movie ever made in my opinion- despite the changes George Lucas made to it in recent years- the only one of which I cannot stand is Greedo shooting first. I do like the effects upgrades of the new versions- just hope someday Solo shoots first like how it was originally- perfect! Anyway despite all this- there is none other movie for me- Epic, incredible, amazing. Just thinking about it gives me chills down my spine.
2) Raiders of the Lost Ark-
George Lucas and Steven Spielberg at their best! This is good as movies get, every single frame of this movie is a masterpiece in cinema. Harrison Ford IS Indiana Jones, and the action, humor, adventure, stunts all come together to create a living breathing entity called The Perfect Movie! You must watch the new restored versions in the cinema- or the Blu Ray editions which is the second best thing! The Blu Ray restorations are the Best I have ever seen in any Blu Ray. The images look like a movie shot today!
3) Star Wars ep V- The Empire Strikes Back
Another perfect movie- almost as good as the original, maybe better, with amazing action set pieces, stunning space chases, and mind boggling revelations- and Yoda. No CGI-loaded crap. Just awesomeness from beginning to end.
4) Se7en
The greatest serial killer/ thriller ever made. Unlike any movie of the type I have ever seen. Atmospheric, tragic, with a monumental ending. Pitt and Freeman in their finest roles. This movie sucks you in, makes you part of its world and spits you out, completely, utterly wasted 2 hours later.
5) Jaws
The movie that started the summer blockbuster era. A young Spielberg trying to make the best out of a limited budget, limited technology and an unrelenting water shoot. Perfect casting, perfect build-up and an explosive climax. The shark effects are amazing even to this day, especially the final moment when the shark jump onto the Orca and carries away the man in his jaws. But what really sets this apart for me is the interaction and chemistry between the characters. Such as when they are comparing scars and sharing stories during a brief respite in the action. Utterly staggering movie.
6) Terminator 2 Judgement Day
This IMO is the greatest action movie ever made. Its got Arnold in prime form (The No.1 action star EVER), Jim Cameron at the helm (IMO the greatest action director), amazing stunts and chases, groundbreaking special effects, and with a great story to back things up. Hasta La Vista, baby!
7) Aliens
Another Jim Cameron Masterpiece. A sequel to Alien, Aliens firmly puts emphasis on the plural aspect of its title. The poster tagline says 'This time its War' and it sure is that. Weaver gives an Oscar worthy performance, and the final unexpected battle between Weaver in the Power loader and Stan Winston's Queen bitch is truly something that you don't see everyday, or any-day for that matter. Not all the CGI in the Galaxy can come close to that.
8) The Abyss
Another Jim Cameron movie. Not that widely known, but it had a massive impact on me first time I watched it, mainly due to the never before seen quality of the underwater effects, but also due to the amazing performances, especially from the two leads. The story is also out of this world, and the emotional roller-coaster ride is simply second to none. Its got stuff you never seen before- submersible chases, underwater aliens, water-breathing rats, and a cast that had to go to hell and back to get it done.
9) Beauty and the Beast
Walt Disney's greatest movie ever. The animations, settings, the colors, the music, the characters, all are simply perfect. No wonder this was the only animated production ever to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar- it should've won too.
10) Fellowship of the Ring
I was never a Lord of the Rings fan. I only read the books after I saw this first movie. But this blew me totally out of the water. Adventure on a scale rarely seen before, and hardly ever done this good. First time I saw it I thought it was even better than Star Wars (eek)- it was that good. This has everything- epic feel, epic story, epic characters, and epic pacing and high adventure. The 2 other sequels felt like same-old same-old in comparison.
SO that's it- my top ten- only movie that has changed is the final entry- To see the original list in a more visceral presentation- CLICK HERE

How to avoid getting scammed and conned and survive oDesk!
Ok so there are many ways contractors can get scammed on oDesk or any other freelance site for that matter.
By following the rules below you can easily minimize the risk.
1) Avoid working for Jews. Jewish clients (from Israel) will pay pennies and will work you like slaves. This is true in real life as well as online. SO avoid Jews!
2) Avoid working for Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshis, Muslims, Chinese, Asians- basically all Muslims and yellow people. They not only ugly but ALL of them are looking for FREE work in my experience. Especially INDIANS- AVOID INDIANS AT ALL COSTS! Sometimes Indians come pretending to be from US or Europe but they still are Indians. If they have even remotely an Indian sounding name (such as RAMA, SING, SIKH etc) avoid them at ALL COSTS.
3) Apply for jobs from Mostly white regions like the US, Europe and Australia. Even in the US try to avoid clients from latin areas like Miami etc. And in Europe avoid eastern European countries for best effect.
4) Since oDesk has a double blind feedback system you never know what some unscrupulous client might leave you to force you to refund. So to avoid this ALWAYS leave 1 star feedback for new unknown clients. If by chance the client has left you 5 star feedback you can always contact customer support and quickly change the 1 star feedback you left for the client.
5) When applying to jobs from new clients with no prior feedback, make sure their payment is verified, and NEVER start work without a verified payment method.
6) When apply for jobs from new clients- if its a fixed priced job ALWAYS make sure to get an advance- preferably 50%- before staring work, and always remember to get milestone payments as the work progresses. If client refuses to pay a milestone that you feel you deserve, STOP work immediately.
7) When doing graphics design work on a fixed price job ALWAYS watermark the samples before sending to client- Only remove watermark and send when client has paid you in FULL. Also make sure the samples are small low quality JPEGs, with a gradient background.
For hourly jobs this is not a concern as all payments are guaranteed.
8) When writing articles on a fixed priced job ALWAYS send the preview sample to client as an IMAGE FILE so that client can read what you wrote but cannot copy and paste without them paying you fully and getting the word document.
So that my sad friends is how to best avoid getting scammed on oDesk- the largest freelancing platform on the net. :(

The Art of Logo Design.
Logo design is an Art form unlike any other form of Graphics Design.
It is a pure creative form of expression, that can make or break a
company or site or anything that the logo is meant for.
A good classy logo will make the company stand out, be remembered
among the rest of the fish in the sea.
Designing the perfect logo requires, born talent of the designer,
loads of experince, mastery of the software tools, and quirky, think-
outside-the-box attitude for best results.
Of the designers I have come accross these guys are the best logos or
any types of graphics in general.
