I've been using PowerDVD15 and after upgrading to PowerDVD 16 Ultra I am seeing much better
image quality, deeper blacks, vivid colors and more details in Blu Ray movies.
Its like experiencing the same movie in a whole different light.
Incredible.

Top Things I learned from watching Star Trek!
I have been watching a lot of Star Trek in recent months. Downloaded and watched The Original Series, The Next Generation, Enterprise and Voyager. Was never a fan of Deep Space Nine.
Most of the shows are fairly good, but to be honest some are dead boring crap. Especially in the Original series there are a lot of clunkers mainly due to budget limitations and limited effects and technology at the time.
But some shows are truly extraordinary- classics of modern SF storytelling.
Here are some things I learned from Star Trek as a whole-
1) 99% of aliens species look and talk like Americans.
2) Turn on the Holodeck and some hologram will try to take over the ship.
3) Prime Directive is mostly forgotten 90% of the time.
4) Warp drive negates Relativity.
5) Go into any Nebula and some alien will jump on board.
6) Trying to head home from the Delta Quadrant? Make every stop to explore every gaseous anomaly instead of maximum warp straight line home.
7) Female Borg drones have some serious implants ;)

IPS vs VA panel monitors! Which to choose?
Some people say VA panels are better, others IPS. Best to go somewhere an see them side to
side. Even that is not reliable if one monitor is calibrated worse than
the other.
I have an IPS monitor- Asus MX279H. Colors are great, viewing angles fantastic- everything's sharp and looks good even tho its 1080p on a 27 inch. Games look and play great- even really fast shooters like Quake III play well without any problems with response time or input lag. (If you can play QIII without any problems u can play anything ;) ).
But it does have lots if IPS glow and a bit of BLB especially when viewed up close on a black screen. But when watching movies or gaming or working it has never caused a distraction or even become noticed.
Go figure.

Best games for older PCs!
So you don't have the latest Nvidia GPU or Intel processors to play the latest games at 4k?
No worries. Here are some of the best of the old games that can make you forget all that latest hardware that you're missing.
These games maybe old but have some the best gameplay ever. And their graphics even tho not cutting edge can still make your jaw drop.
1) Doom and Doom II.
The ultimate shooter. The combination of weapons, demons, setting (hell), soundtrack, levels, and amount of creatures at the same time and the carnage is second to none. This is the greatest game ever made in my humble opinion.
2) Hexen & Hexen II
3) Pharaoh
4) Elder Scrolls Morrowind and Oblivion.
5) Half Life and Half Life 2
6) Star Wars- Jedi Knight- Dark Forces II
7) Jedi Knight II- Jedi Outcast.

Upwork raising fee to 20%!!!
Upwork has gone bonkers! They have raised their fee from 10% to 20% for contracts that are $500 or less!! From $501 to $10,000 fee will be 10%. Above that fee will be 5%. Since 99% of all jobs are less than $500 this will be pretty bad for all Upwork freelancers.
First it was the stupid connects system with only 30 free job applications per month- now they raise the fee to 20%- What a monstrous loss.
They became too greedy after oDesk changed to Upwork.
They have almost no competition after they acquired eLance, so they are free to set any fee they want and we can do very little about it.
Man I am Unhappy! :(
Time to head to Freelancer.com.
https://www.upwork.com/i/pricing/freelancers/?utm_source=responsys&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=pricing_FL_FC
If anyone still wanna stay on Upwork- apply for jobs there and get clients to pay you directly through PayPal or Payoneer. Simple. FUCK YOU UPWORK.

Amazing stunt by an accomplished stuntman. Truly amazing.
Best PC/Computer speakers for games, music and movies!
Ok lets take a look at some of the best speakers you can get for your PC for different budgets.
This will be about dedicated PC speakers with integrated amps- not true Hi-Fi or Home Theater speakers that require external amplifiers or DACs. And these suggestions are purely my opinion.
I am a huge believer in having a discrete subwoofer for a PC to get the ultimate bass kick for games and movies- also this allows the satellite speakers to be small and hence be easily placed on the desktop beside the monitor and the big (hopefully) subwoofer tucked away out of sight under the table or corner of the room. So this article will feature mostly 2.1 or 5.1 systems.
This is Logitech's low to mid-range 5.1 speaker set-up. It has a decent sized subwoofer along with 4 satellites and center channel that sport a tweeter and a mid-range driver. Thus they sound fantastic with movies and games and music and paired with a good sound card will sound even better.
Only problem with these is that the Bass level control is on the back of the sub. :(
However for the price you cannot find any better 5.1 audio than this. You will need to look at far more expensive systems to get anything better.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Logitech-Z506-Speaker-System-5-1-Black-980-000431-RMS-75W-AC-Euro-plug-New-/282014501613?hash=item41a95fcaed:g:uXYAAOSw-tNXHxXi
This is a 2.1 system with THX certification (which means it will never be sub-standard at anything).
Very powerful speakers with 200watts RMS in total with 130 of those going to the sub: these will be enough for most house parties. Turn the sub all the way up and behold- no distortion!
Can be purchased here in Sri Lanka- https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZMGJc69uk2fVEFPKNu1UboxE3Wh5ftI9yUJuIbQzZi4/pubhtml#
Or from ebay- http://www.ebay.com/itm/Logitech-Z623-Lautsprechersystem-200-W-Stereo-THX-3-1-kg-Schwarz-/291712771516?hash=item43eb6fa5bc:g:j1sAAOSwyjBW7FWF
Corsair's entry into the PC speaker market was a stunner.
With 232Watts RMS and high-grade components, if you can get hold of one it would be killer.
One of the best 2.1 PC speakers ever made. Only wish they had a 5.1 option.
These are the 5.1 PC speakers to die for- not manufactured anymore and replaced by the inferior Z906 model (which has a smaller subwoofer) these are the speakers I have personally owned for 10 years plus now. And they still work flawlessly- however the center speaker has got a slight rattle and vibration with age as the speaker cone binding has started to crack and fall apart. And the bass coming out of this can shake the whole building. Not to mention the flawless Dolby Digital and DTS decoding.Combined with a blu ray drive and PowerDVD software this can sound utterly amazing.
Wish Logitech would simply update this model with a DTS-HD MA option instead of the Z906.
If you look around eBay sometimes they will have a used Z5500 for sale- sometimes even a new one for a huge price premium.
These speakers come highly recommended by reviewers as a solid entry into the low-budget PC speaker market. They look good and sound good with good bass, decent highs and good mids. They sport dual woofers and a tweeter and come encased in a real wood cabinet.
Can be purchased here in Sri Lanka- http://shadsdigital.lk/index.php/computers/accessories/speakers-sub-woofers/microlab-solo-7cnew.html#.VyhXVEfYg2w
